Struggling to keep their music alive since the March of 1992 that their one and only 7” single was released, the Australian-Greek guitar player Nick Drivas, joined the bands Starblind in 1998 and Soho 6 in 2001.
But Distorted Image remained for ever in his heart as he kept promoting their single although the band disbanded years ago.
Distorted Image were formed by Nick Drivas and Costas Androutsopoulos in 1988 inspired by bands such as Bauhaus, The Cure and Joy Division.
Spyros Syndoulidis (member of the leading handcore punk band Antidrasi) joined them on the drums and Vicky Zachou on vocals.
This bond between Antidrasi and Distorted Image wouldl lastfor long once the first ones would always be there for Nick’s band.
After a few gigs, Syndoulidis left the band to start his military service and Vicky Zachou was dropped because “she did not reach the bands expectations”.
They were soon replaced by Alex Kourtis on drums and Tasos Kitsos on vocals and keyboards respectively. With the added sound of the keyboards the sound of the band became more atmospheric and dark.
In January 1991 Distorted Image recorted their first demo tape at Praxis recording studios.
In February the band managed to play live the songs “Still” and “A Single Tear” on the Greek national television, for the music programe “To The Rhythm Of Youth”.
As the Greek fanzines and music papers started having articles about them, they went on a string of gigs and after a line up change (drummer Alex left / drummer Spyro came), Distorted Image returned to Praxis Recording Studios to record the two songs for their debut single, “Prayers Of Another Year” and “Still”.
Despite the band’s contacts and consistent searching for a record deal with some independent label no one came to the aid. Put down by all these, the band decided to release the single on their own. The recording was sent to be printed on 7” vinyl in Sydney Australia where Taso’s brother managed to find a place to do the pressing of the 500 copies. The cover was printed in greece and was designed by a graphics studio where handicapped people worked. Press releases were sent to the music media announcing the band’s attempt to release their independent single and in return articles showed up in several music papers.
Their single “Prayers Of Another Year/Still” was finally released on March 1992 and was distributed by the band members to the local record shops.
A few copies were also exported to Italy and France.
Despite the band’s progress in the independent scene, bad luck hit the band again. Spyro, the drummer left the band soon after the release of the single leaving the band in the cold during their prime time. This herald the end of the band since it was difficult to find from scratch a new member. As the months went by Distorted Image became inactive so much that the brake up was predictable by the remaining members. Only Nick, the only founder member left, kept promoting the band in hope that things might change. The only thing he managed was to keep the band’s name alive for some time by giving the single to djs so to be played in clubs.
were formed in 1998. The line up composed of members that had previously been in other bands such as Distorted Image and Kissamatic Lovebubbles. The line up was Marily (vocals), George (guitar), Yiannis (bass), Katerina (keyboards) and Nick Drivas (drums). In 1999 they recorded their four track demo “Killing A Day”. From this demo the track “Crush On You” was featured on two compilations, “Try A Little Sunshine” by Pop Art records and “Picnic Basket” by the American label Shelflife.
After the Starblind split, Nick and Marily formed Soho 6 in 2001. The band line up was Marily (vocals), Nick (bass), Petros (guitar) and Panos (drums). The band preformed in many music venues around Athens such as Small Music Theater, An club, Gagarin and also preformed at a indie festival at Antiparos island. In 2002 the band recorded and released their four track “Fly” EP on their own label My Turn. Their track “Kiss’o’gram” was featured on the compilation “Mad Athens Presents Popscene 01” by Grabber records. The track “Portraits” from the EP was featured on the Rock & Roll magazine cd “Today’s Best Music” in March 2003. Since then has been involved in writing articles about the Greek underground scene.
