Some indie record labels left their mark by releasing a few albums.
Some others had a huge catalogue of releases.
Smash Records from Thessaloniki is placed in the first list.
A small record shop that had only 3 releases that today are rare but…still remain great.
During 1986, Smash Records released the following three albums:
Stained Veil – “livin on leavin”
Fear Condition – “Till Night Comes Again”
Yell O Yell – “ΧΙΙ-13”
The two first albums have a great post punk sound, similar to the early Cure and maybe Bauhaus sound.
A couple of members of Stained Veil looks like they were were playing or helping Fear Condition to record
and vise versa…
Both bands were based in Thessaloniki and were formed in the mid 80’s.
There are no informations available about them…
Stained Veil’s line up was: Nick Modiotis – vocals, S. Zisis on the guitars, George Pattas – bass and additional guitars
and D.Stephanopoulos on the drums.
The tracklisting of their album is the following:
Change Of Time
Reasons To Be Alone
Livin On Leavin
Without Them All
It’s All The Same
Now, both albums had the same producer, the mysterious T.”The Skull” T. which I suppose, must be Thodoros,
the record label owner.
George Pattas appears here again playing the main guitar while Sotiris Zisis works on the production of the album
along with the band and T.”The Skull” T….
The band members are, singer – Fiben, C.G. (Christos Giannakis) on the bass, S. “Reverb” G. (Savvas Georgiadis) on the drums,
guitar player George Pattas, and sax player Franz.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest
Paris At Night
Black And White
Full Moon Side
Dreaming Of Tunnels
Dimensions Of The Forest
I Remember (Darkness In Stockholm)
On both albums, the lyrics are dark and the pessimistic (on “Vampire” the lyrics are taken by Charles Baudelaire)
creating a haunting atmosphere.
For sure, these were two albums that shouldn’t be forgoten…
Smash Records never released an other album after the Yell O Yell one…
Yell O Yell
