The Sisters of Mercy is subject to numerous parties and tribute nights in the greek goth community. Last Saturday, Death Disco welcomed the greek summer with a special live tribute billing three hot names from the local scene: Sorrowful Angels, The Illusion Fades and New Zero God. Each on of them would play three Sisters covers along with two of their own songbook.
Sorrowful Angels is a band that resides at the metal side of goth with a concrete guitar sound and haunting vocals. Undoubtedly, one of the best new goth metal bands ideally opened the night. “Denial” from their debut album “Ship in your Trip” and “Shores of Capture” taken from their second, “Omens” transferred a riff shock to the crowd. The Sisters were revered with “Walk Away”, “Vision Thing” and “More” with the latter played under an incredible wall of sound.
The Illusion Fades have always been one step ahead in the goth metal path and one of the few bands you enjoy both in your favourite hi fi device and on stage. Highly dramatic and lyrical, they covered “Something Fast”, “Alice” and “This Corrosion”. Their own two little masterpieces “Blue Angel” and “Valentine” were the best choice to be included to a nearly perfect set.
So far, New Zero God have covered The Cult and Sonny Curtis live and it seems their covers were more like a debt to the band that massified gothic rock. For starter the gentle chords of “Marian” followed by “I was Wrong” and “Temple of Love”. And then the best track from “‘MMXIII”, “Damaged” and their classic “Kiss the Witch” which formally closes the band’s live performaces.
Alcohol and nicotine, Sisters’ tunes and fun, it was a night that Andrew Eldritch would had enjoyed sitting back there..
