Jesus Hooligan – Stripped Bare Naked

I copied the following from PUNKVERT.TV

Jesus Hooligan started out when Steve Brunton the singer out of the hardcore punk band Gout/Lager Louts became ill with throat problems and had to stop singing live.

During that time Steve started making his own music from sounds he liked, tractors, angle grinders, drills and anything you can hit like barrels, buckets, scaffold tubes and diesel tanks.

He went under the name Jesus Hooligan, a play on words from two bands he’d been involved with, 1.Godshatter = Jesus, 2.The Lager Louts = Hooligan.

When Steve’s voice improved, he set about starting up a live band, turning his music, recordings and written material into songs that can be performed live. He was joined by guitarist Jason Sanders from the punk band Drink Problem and then a short while later by didgeridoo player Dave Croughan, which made the live line up a bunch of old boys hitting things and making a racket with barrels, guitars, digderidoos, chains, gas canisters plus anything else they liked the sound of.

The end result was a mix of hoe down punk crossed with industrial folk blues that shouldn’t work but somehow does.

Here is a video about the Album STRIPPED BARE NAKED by JESUS HOOLIGAN, you can download it on CD BABY, or physical CDs directly from here by paypal on jesushooligan@yahoo.co.uk or through Ex Gratia Recordings for £4 plus postage…

Bettie Serveert / The Veldt – Damaged Good / Symmetry (Schoolkids Records 22 April 2017)

Schoolkids announces two Record Store Day releases!

Bettie Serveert “Damaged Good” Colored LP, Gatefold with CD insert
The Veldt “Symmetry / Slow Grind” 7” Single
North Carolina based indie retail store and label Schoolkids Records have announced that two exclusive limited-edition vinyl titles will be released as part of the Tenth Annual Record Store Day event, to be held on April 22nd, 2017.Dutch indie legends Bettie Serveert return on their 25th Anniversary with their 11th Studio Album “Damaged Good”. This limited edition exclusive transparent magenta Vinyl LP (with beautiful gatefold packaging) will include a digital download and full CD. This is the only version of the LP or CD available in North America. This is one of ‘The Betties’ most diverse albums so far, including songs ranging from 60 seconds to an 8 min epos and everything in between.

This LP experience is intense, raw and tender, but it is also passionate and fierce. Some songs will definitely remind people of their classic ‘Palomine’, the debut album that started everything 25 years ago. The album is recorded and mixed with Jesse Beuker, with whom Canadian-born vocalist Carol van Dyk and lead guitarist Peter Visser have worked before on their Australian project ‘Me & Stupid’. This collection of 11 tracks also includes the rock duet ‘Love Sick’ with Peter te Bos, vocalist from the famous Dutch band Claw Boys Claw.

Legendary North Carolina band The Veldt return with a new single“Symmetry”, available exclusively as a 7” single for Record Store Day 2017.  The lead track and its b-side counterpart “Slow Grind” are two of the best songs released in the band’s 28-year history.  Often compared to the Cocteau Twins, Ride and Lush, this is a must-have for any shoegaze aficionado.  http://secondmotionrecords.com/artists/the-veldt.htmlThe Veldt formed in the late 80’s in Raleigh amongst the royalty of the legendary North Carolina music scene, including bands such as Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, The Connells, Dillon Fence, The dBs, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Ryan Adams.  Pitchfork recently included their album ‘Afrodisiac’ in the top 50 shoegaze albums ever released.

The band has just finished up a US tour with Phantogram, playing sold-out shows every night and winning over tons of new fans in each city.  They will soon be heading out on a string of East Coast dates with their pals (and seminal 4AD band) Modern English, as well with a new EP ‘The Shocking Fuzz of Your Electric Fur: The Drake Equation’, which is slated for worldwide release in June 2017. Neither ‘Symmetry” nor ‘Slow Grind’ are on the forthcoming EP, so they can only be obtained on this 7” exclusive single.

These titles are very limited and will only be available at your local independent record store nationwide.  For a list of participating stores and a list of all 2017 Record Store Day releases for the US, please visit http://www.recordstoreday.com and please call your local record shop to find out more details!

INHALT – Part Time Punks Sessions (Cleopatra Records 14 April 2017)

Dark electronic trio INHALT announce ‘Part Time Punks Sessions’, unveil first single ‘Walking On Glass’

On April 14, dark electronic / minimal synth outfit INHALT will be releasing their new album ‘Part Time Punks Sessions’ via Cleopatra Records, who are giving a taste of the album by presenting the lead single ‘Walking on Glass’. Hard-driving, up-tempo, and propelled by German vocals, this and the other tracks offered on this release are sleek, chic and cold, formidably capturing the INHALT sound and ethos.

The video for ‘Walking On Glass’ was shot, edited, and directed byDmitry Semenov, one of the main visual collaborators for Recoil (Alan Wilder/ Depeche Mode).
The ‘Part Time Punks Sessions’ LP features the best of the band’s signature synth-driven dark analog pop. This is both a live and a studio album, having been recorded in real time in collaboration with the Part Time Punks radio show in Los Angeles. This is the band’s fourth significant release and final album to be recorded at the band’s homebuilt studio, affectionately called “The Bunker”.
INHALT is German for “content”. This San Francisco-based trio is comprised of Philip Winiger, Matia Simovich, and Steven Campodonico. Winiger, born in Switzerland, visited San Francisco for a year long sabbatical but ended up forming the band with Simovich in 2009. They immediately recognized their mutual philosophy of sonic fidelity and creative integrity, rather than nostalgia.
For some INHALT will already be known, having released their first three releases on notable record labels. Their split 12” with London’s seminal World Unknown Records happened in 2011, followed by their “Vehicle” and “Occupations” EPs for San Francisco’s cult powerhouse Dark Entries Records. These waves of dark energy-filled output firmly established INHALT’s sound. What emerged was a well-defined pop sensibility informed by European Minimalism and a sincere, yet playfully cynical sense of humor. As much Kraftwerk as John Carpenter but with a pronounced drive of Moroder disco, INHALT’s sound has found home in both studious personal listening and the crowded dance floor.

“If we’ve been accused of putting too much time in the production process, PTP Sessions would be our antithesis; Done quickly, direct to multitrack analog tape, in a single take, capturing our live show, as it is, warts and all. We took inspiration from the John Peel sessions of days past, and worked in the spirit of that body of work from the performance, straight to the final mix down,” explains Matia Simovich. “It was a great privilege to be asked to do this by Michael Stock (who runs Part Time Punks), and we delivered something that we feel matches the essence of PTP: raw, honest, and on the border between the past and the present.”
Hot on the heels of the “Simulacra” remix EP for London’s Emotional Especial, INHALT not only ravaged the dance-centric anglo beat (fueled by remixes from heavyweights Timothy J. Fairplay and Black Merlin), but also found themselves in their ideal creative intersection: the road between the lyrical response to a challenging world, a sublime and elegant production technique, and the never ending pulse of the transistor rhythm machine.
On the concert circuit, INHALT have a reputation for bringing a tour de force wall of sound with an energetic stage presence. They have played concerts with peers old and new, including Front 242, Clock DVA, Martial Canterel, and High Functioning Flesh. They’ve condensed this raw concert experience into the John Peel-esque Part Time Punks Sessions, to be made available on April 14, both digitally and on CD, via Cleopatra Records with the vinyl release to follow.
On March 17, INHALT will deliver a specially curated DJ set in Austin atSXSW as part of the event ‘AFS and Holodeck Present: Kwaidan Rescored 2017 SXSW Official’. This event, which takes place at The Hideout Theater beginning at 7pm local time, was organized by Holodeck Records in partnership with the Austin Film Society.

The History of Colour TV – Something Like Eternity (Cranes Records 17 March 2017)

The History of Colour TV Reveal Second Single From ‘Something Like Eternity’ LP

Berlin-based trio The History of Colour TV presents ‘As Gray As Park Can Be’, the second single from their forthcoming third LP ‘Something Like Eternity’, which is slated for release on March 17 via France’s Crane Records.
The back story to this album is inspired by the band’s desire to work with notable producer Peter Deimel (The Wedding Present, Shellac, The Ex), for which they traveled to France in the spring of 2016 to record with him at the legendary Black Box Recording Studio. Days of making music in the French countryside, close to the Loire Valley, saw them depart from their previous sound, instead bringing a raw, minimalist aesthetic to the new release.
This new track follows the first single ‘Wreck’ from this album. Stylistically, these are both dynamic and open live recordings with minimal overdubs and, in this respect, they represent a snapshot of the album as a whole. Based on narrative themes, these songs blend melodic sensibilities with ragged guitar textures. The first track builds nicely on melancholic arpeggio patterns.
British artist Jaike Stambach founded The History Of Colour TV in 2010. Initially conceived as a solo multimedia project involving noisy hypnotic output through audio, video and soundtrack offerings, he was eventually joined byt Markus Mocydlarz and Janek Sprachta. Over the course of two albums and multiple EPs, released through Bruit Blanc and Saint Marie Records, the band has been unabashedly diverse in their approach, exploring harsh noise, sound collages and reverb-saturated dreampop, to the stripped-down rock of their more recent offerings. They also toured extensively while establishing a remarkable presence on the Berlin music scene.
The more organic approach taken for the band’s second widely acclaimed album ‘Shapes of Spilt Blood Spelt Love’ was stripped of the electronic attributes of the band’s debut album ‘Emerald Cures Chic Ills’ to present a spacious mix of strategically sparse layers of guitars, minimalist rhythmic patterns and bass-heavy riffs. In contrast, ‘Something Like Eternity’ is an album of sparse, immediate performances captured live in studio. The room seemingly reverberates to a wide dynamic range of sonic tapestries ranging from fleeting moments of near-silence to elongated passages of guitar meltdowns, loaded with emotion.
‘Something Like Eternity’ will be released on March 17, both digitally and on vinyl, via French label Cranes Records and the band’s own imprint Weird Books. Band member Janek Sprachta has also just released ‘Grow’, his second solo album via Midira Records, which is also worth exploring for a brief journey through ambient, modern classic and post rock.

Phantogram and The Veldt Spring Eastern U.S. Tour, March 11-17 11 March 2017

Phantogram and The Veldt to Embark on East Coast Tour, March 11-17

Alternative pop icons Phantogram and shoegaze alternative soul pioneers The Veldt have announced they will play six exclusive U.S. East Coast cities before the former departs for their European tour. The duo will again return to the U.S.A. in mid-April for two separate appearances at Coachella.

Phantogram is touring in support of their recently released their third studio album ‘Three’ (Republic Records). Consisting of Josh Carter (guitars) and Sarah Barthel (keyboards), the duo formed in 2007. On ‘Three’, they take their sound in an enthralling, darker direction, adding new textures to their signature style. This album represents a new creative peak they’ve been building towards for nearly a decade. The latest chapter in the duo’s impressive ascent to the forefront of alternative pop, this iridescent record glows with warmth even as it explores the desolation of personal pain. This is also proof that nothing, at this point, can hold them back.

This six-date joint tour kicks off on Saturday, March 11 at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre, followed by dates in St. Paul, MN (Palace Theatre), Madison, WI (Orpheum Theater), Urbana, IL (Canopy Club), Cincinnati, OH (Bogart’s), and Atlanta, GA (The Tabernacle).

The Veldt are touring in support of their EP ‘The Shocking Fuzz of Your Electric Fur: The Drake Equation’ the band’s first new recording in fifteen years, which will be released worldwide on June 2 via Schoolkids Records, home to artists such as Adam Franklin & Swervedriver, Tommy Keene and Bettie Serveert with a history of collaboration with artists such as New Model Army, Daniel Lanois and Emm Gryner.

The Veldt formed in the late 80’s in Raleigh amongst the royalty of the legendary North Carolina music scene, including bands such as Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, The Connells, Dillon Fence, The dBs, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Ryan Adams. Pitchfork recently included their album ‘Afrodisiac’ in the top 50 shoegaze albums eve released. Today their musical output is in the same ballpark as A.R.Kane, Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, and Jesus & Mary Chain.

Signed to Capitol Records in 1989 and eventually Mercury Records, The Veldt embarked on a musical journey that changed their lives. The soon found themselves in the studio with dream-gaze guru Robin Guthrie, touring America with Cocteau Twins and the UK with The Jesus and Mary Chain and working with leading producers Lincoln Fong of Moose on their debut album ‘Marigolds’ and Ray Schulman (Bjork, Sugarcubes, The Sundays) on ‘Afrodisiac’. The Veldt were a sensation from the start and part of a movement of innovators, who came of musical age at a time when rhythmic rebels were reflective, gritty and wild. Their sound inspired future generations of alternative artists, including TV On the Radio.

The Veldt have collaborated with TV On The Radio, Mos Def, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Lady Miss Kier (Deee-Lite), and most recently with A.R.Kane, and have shared the stage with the likes of The Pixies, Throwing Muses, Echo & The Bunnymen, Cocteau Twins, Manic Street Preachers, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Oasis and Living Colour.

The band reformed in 2016 and their new EP started to make the rounds with a 2016 vinyl release via Manchester’s Leonard Skully Records. Their return was met with incredible enthusiasm and significant press attention, including from The Guardian (UK), who say “the new songs invite paradoxical praise: serenely assaultive and vertiginously soothing.” In the past year, the band did a mini-tour with The Brian Jonestown Massacre, embarked on two Canadian tours, toured and played multiple festivals across Europe.
