Swedish-based artist Moist releases ‘Lavine’ LP feat. vocalist Maria Marcus
Dreamy Swedish electronic producer Moist has announced that his new album ‘Lavine’ will be released on limited edition CD and cassette on November 30. RE preceded by the recent release of the album digitally everywhere Released via I/O Music.,
Based in Söderhamn, Sweden, Moist is the solo moniker of producer, artist and remixer David Elfström Lilja. The new LP includes 10 tracks with vocals by Maria Marcus, a Swedish multi-platinum songwriter and music producer currently based in Palma, Spain.
This is endearingly soft downbeat electronic music with warmth. Counting Imogen Heap, Marconi Union, Massive Attack and Sigur Rós among influences, Lilja puts his own wonderful spin on things – the outcome is silkiness that initially drapes itself over you with its sheer accessibility and candor. Music that is both charming and holistic, captivating us with positively infectious like ‘Berlin’, ‘Words’, ‘Firefly’, ‘Stars’, ‘Traces’ and ‘Worlds Collide’.
‘Lavine’ is his sophomore album, issued six years after his debut ‘Temporary Arrangements’ LP. That initial offering was an ambitious achievement, featuring 17 songs with 11 different vocalists. Its first single ‘Far Beyond The Endless’ featured on the Blank & Jones Collection Chilltronica #2, which shot to #1 on the electronic chart in Germany.
“This new album ‘Lavine’ emerged from many years of mental illness since finishing the last album. So the release of this album somewhat marks a new phase in life for me. Many of the songs were made in a very dark place, even if the music itself doesn’t sound so dark,” says David Elfström Lilja.
“The song “She” is about my sister Elena, who died four years ago. This album is more coherent than the first one, which has 17 songs and many different guest singers. That’s also one of the reasons I just worked with Maria Marcus on this record. Yes, and the fact that she is also amazing in every way.”
The tracks on this album were primarily written by Lilja and Marcus, who is well known for her K-pop compositions, including for Namie Amuro, Shinee, Girls Generation, T-Pain and Afrojack. She wrote and produced three of the tracks on Namie Amuro’s last album, which sold one million copies the first week it was released.
Other co-writers on this album include Tania Doko (from Australia’s Bachelor Girl, known for their ’98 superhit ‘Buses and Trains’) and award-winning Faroe Islands artist Brandur Enni.
Moist earlier made quite a few waves in The Guardian in regards to pitiful royalty rates on Spotify and other similar streaming resources.
As Moist, Lilja has officially remixed artists like Pet Shop Boys, Imogen Heap, Moby, Erasure, The Knife, Butterfly Boucher, Red Snapper, Agnes and Antiloop. His remix for Butterfly Boucher ranked among Popservations’ (US) yearly Top 25 remixes of 2012.
Moist has been nominated for the Hollywood Music In Media Awards three years in a row, which makes sends considering that he also runs the record label I/O Music, and creates ambient music under the name Numb. In 2013, David Elfström Lilja also received his hometown’s culture prize for significant contributions to music and cultural life.
“I wanna make music that you can listen to and enjoy and also have in the background as ambient music when you have a deep conversation with your best friend,” says Lilja.
I/O Music is an independent Swedish record label founded in 2010,, giving great electronic music a platform to be heard and giving people the opportunity to hear it. Releases span from ambient to techno, from experimental to downbeat, among many electronic genres.
The ‘Lavine’ LP will be available everywhere as of November 30. It can be ordered via I/O Music’s website – digitally or physically on CD or cassette – and is now available across music stores and streaming platforms such as iTunes and Spotify.

SpaceFest! 2018 to launch, Pure Phase Ensemble 8 led by Will Carruthers (Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, Spectrum, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dead Skeletons)
On December 7–8, the city of Gdańsk will again be the East European hub of psychedelic sounds, celebrating guitar distortions, noise drones and other mysterious sounds created under the influence of cosmic energy: ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the eighth SpaceFest!
This year’s edition will include even more concerts, taking place not on one, but two stages of Klub B90. The lineup includes a mouth-watering, transcontinental selection of music for fans of the heavier side of rock, new psychedelia, space-rock and shoegaze, as well as electronic and experimental music. SpaceFest is offering concert-goers a one-way ticket to discover new psych sounds and bands (without having to go to the moon).
This year’s selection of artists includes Brazil’s very own RAKTA will immerse you in their garage psychedelic music, strongly inspired by tribal rites, occultism and trance rhythms. These girls rock and don’t take no prisoners!
Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa is MEDICINE BOY. This duo will enchant you with their oneiric female vocals and downtempo, unsettling, heroin-fuelled sounds, only to explode in solid, noise drones when you’re least expecting it.
Italians SONIC JESUS are no strangers to guitar distortion, trance electronic beats or anything gothic. Their concerts promise a blast of pure energy. EYRE LLEW are an ambient-rock trio from Notthingam UK, who are making waves with their beautiful, ethereal sounds. If you’re fans of Sigur Rós or Mogwai, this concert is a must.
THE LUCID DREAM represent the UK’s young alternative scene and do not shy away from experimenting with various genres. Their set will combine psychedelic rock with elements of acid house, dub and kosmische Musik.
PIN PARK’s music is strongly inspired by German experimental electronica from the 1970s. Using original instruments from that time, they create a broad spectrum of analogue sounds, generating music that is soothing, melancholy, structured based on looped, developing motifs, and punctuated with crafty details and nuances.
NEST EGG, a heady trio from North Carolina (US), like to call their heavy, motoric, rock sound “mood music for nihilists”. SPOIWOcombine post-rock, shoegaze, modern classical and film music. This will be the band’s first concert in Gdańsk after a long break. This shoud be a real treat for faithful fans, as the band will be presenting some tracks from their upcoming album.
Gdańsk-based trio POPSYSZE also promise to debut some new tracks. Perhaps the strongest psychedelic, space-rock representation in northern Poland, they are strongly inspired by the wild nature of the Kashubian region and ethnic music from various corners of the world.
The SpaceFest! 2018 line-up is would not be complete without two winners of our competition for interesting psychedelic acts: COLUMBUS DUO from Gdańsk (noise/ drone / ambient /improv) and XDZVØNX from Wrocław (sacral noize/dark electro – a surprising mix of broken beats, Orthodox music, hip-hop and hypnotising visuals).
Mexico’s SUNSET IMAGES also merit particular attention with their pure-blooded guitar psych, peppered with elements of experimental noise and shoegaze.
As every year, one of the main highlights of the festival is PURE PHASE ENSEMBLE 8 – an international formation created specially for SpaceFest! Throughout the week before the festival, a group of 10 musicians will meet to jam at Łaźnia CCA, composing and playing material that will later be presented live at SpaceFest. PPE 8 will be curated by WILL CARRUTHERS, a legendary musician who has spent the last 30 years playing in 33 bands, including Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, SPECTRUM, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Dead Skeletons.
In past incarnations of Pure Phase Ensemble, the group was curated by Mark Gardener (Ride), Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab), Ray Dickaty (Spiritualized), Steve Hewitt (Placebo), Jaime Harding (Marion), Chris Olley (Six By Seven), and Hugo Race (The Bad Seeds, The True Spirit).
Last but not least, is SpaceFest regular DR SWITCHOFF (RU), whose crazy Finders Keepers-inspired DJ sets and absurd visuals will wrap up the festival.
Organized by the Nasiono Association , this event is co-funded annually by the City of Gdańsk in partnership with Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art, Metropolitalna Karta do Kultury, B90, Saltus Ubezpieczenia . Media patrons include Shameless Promotion PR, Drowned in Sound, Last Day Deaf, Radio Gdańsk S.A., Trojmiasto.pl, Gazeta Wyborcza, Co Jest Grane24, Full Moon Magazine and GoOut.pl.
The years go by, but one thing stays the same: SpaceFest stands for great music, zero gravity and maximum psych factor! Tickets cost between PLN 25-75 (discount for students and CARD TO CULTURE holders) and may be purchased at http://spacefest.pl/bilety or via GoOut, Soundrive Tickets and KupBilecik.pl.

THE CHEMISTRY SET – ‘FIREFLY’
30 years after their first release (a cassette!), The Chemistry Set celebrate by recording two new psychedelic rock tracks that ooze class.
Phasing, Farfisas, Rickenbackers and Mellotrons – they’re all in there, with probably the best production job the band have ever achieved. What a way to celebrate 30 years!
Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, we’re adding in a free bonus CD that includes two extended remixes by Astralasia of The Chemistry Set’s cover of The Moody Blues’ ‘Legend Of A Mind‘ – we must be mad.
nick nicely – ‘ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER’
Nick (best known for his legendary ‘Hilly Fields‘ and ‘49 Cigars‘ singles) continues to redefine psychedelia for the 21st century; he has recorded two new tracks exclusively for FdM, creating an electronic wall-of-sound and then building Dylan’s ‘Watchtower‘ behind it. And he presents a new song – ‘The Doors Of Perception‘ for the other side that’s equally epic and jaw-dropping.
TOUCH – ‘WE FEEL FINE’
a three-track 7″EP from a US band that released one remarkable LP in 1969 and then split up. Their music was somewhere between (and occasionally beyond!) psychedelia and progressive rock, with touches of Zappa and a whole lot of other things thrown in. Hendrix called in on the studio sessions and was apparently suitably impressed. Mojo called the album a “buried treasure”.
Our single includes two outstanding tracks from the album and a third from an unreleased 1968 single that’s never been released on vinyl before. Includes a mini fold-out poster
ELFIN BOW & GARY LLOYD – ‘WHO KNOWS WHERE THE TIME GOES’
Elfin Bow entranced the audience at this year’s Dr. Sardonicus festival with a solo rendition of the Sandy Denny classic. But here she is joined by Gary Lloyd and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for a beautifully rich version.
The b-side is also backed by the orchestra as she revisits her own song, ‘The Wisdom‘.
If the charts still meant anything, this would be in there.
Comes is a rather lovely gatefold sleeve.
My Demons Galore will hit you with a blast of fast-paced, hard music comprised of distinct energy and vigor
Big, edgy, anthem rock which focuses on the issue of mental health and overcoming the hardships of all things related.
My Demons Galore is an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2015.
The group’s first official music video “Empty Bottles” was self-released on Youtube and promoted across social media on August 31st, 2016, followed by the release of their self-titled EP “My Demons Galore” which came out on November 31st, 2016.
After a minor hiatus, as well as parting ways with some of the original members, the band rearranges the sound by incorporating heavier electronic elements into their new style and releases their second music video on September 14th, 2018 – “Carry Your Own Light”, which focuses on the issue of mental health and overcoming the hardships of all things related.
Being heavily influenced by the acts of Queen, Muse, 30 Seconds To Mars, Twenty One Pilots, Biffy Clyro, among many others, the band members describe their overall style and musical direction as “big, edgy, anthem rock”.
With striking lyrics, anthemic choruses and bigger-than-life personality, My Demons Galore are an NYC-based alternative rock band that will hit you with a blast of fast-paced, hard music comprised of distinct energy and vigor.
Me and Steve Whitfield go many years back, in 1995 when I was recording the Flowers of Romance album “Brilliant Mistakes” at Wayne Hussey‘s studio in Bristol.
Wayne was the producer and Steve was the sound engineer.
He was also working with the Mission and was with the Cure before that.
Later he produced Terrorvision, Supercharger and many others.
Now, he is the guitarist of Leeds based quartet Klammer.
So we had some catching up to do.

Beauty in Chaos presents single ‘Look Up’ feat. Tish Ciravolo and Grammy nominee Michael Rozon
Debut album features members of The Cure, The Mission, Cheap Trick, Ministry, The Offspring, Ice T & more
Los Angeles-based Beauty in Chaos have announced their impending vinyl release of their debut album ‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’. Slated for November 30, 33.3 Music Collective will be offering almost 80 minutes of music, curated by guitarist Michael Ciravolo on deluxe CD and limited-edition heavy weight, colored vinyl. Ahead of that, they present their new single ‘Look Up’ feat.Tish Ciravolo. The accompanying video was produced by Industrialism Films and directed by Vicente Cordero.
Born of frustration and creativity, this project an audio assemblage curated by LA-based guitarist Michael Ciravolo and produced by Ministry’s Grammy-nominated producer Michael Rozon at Ciravolo’s own SAINTinLA Studio.
“Once I set up my turntable, I immediately listened to a bunch of vinyl from the late ‘80s 4AD period and shoegaze. Cocteau Twins, Lush, Slowdive and, of course, My Bloody Valentine. Inspired, I picked up my guitar and run it through an excessive amount of delay and reverb. Once I hit on that main riff, I knew it would be a perfect song for my wife to sing. I thought she delivered a melodic and lyric homerun,” says Michael Ciravolo.
Originally from New Orleans and now based in Los Angeles, Michael Ciravolo has played guitar in Human Drama for the past 30 years, most recently on ‘Broken Songs for Broken People’ (2017). Perhaps best known as President of Schecter Guitar Research, he has also played live and recorded with Michael Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel since 1998. In 2015, he was joined by wife Tish Ciravolo, founder of Daisy Rock Guitars.
“When you randomly meet someone and instantly know that you want to create a history with them, that is what I call magic. Everyone’s family history is different but I wanted to change what I had grown up in and create a loving home life including dogs, cats and kids,” says Tish Ciravolo.
“My fear is now, with the advent of cell phones, that people are so busy looking down at their phones they are missing life. See the moon outside my window? See the stars up in the sky? There is magic in the air – don’t miss that magic, that chance in life to randomly meet someone that you want to create a history with and LOOK UP.”
Hopping from band to band and inching ever-closer but never getting to that elusive record deal, Tish Ciravolo became the quintessential L.A. rock queen, having played in numerous bands including Rag Dolls, The Velvets, They Eat Their Own, StunGun and eventually her own band Shiksa and the Sluts.
Combining a lifelong passion for making music with a desire to “level the playing field” for dedicated female guitarists and bassists of all ages, Tish Ciravolo founded Daisy Rock Girl Guitars in 2000. Ciravolo’s dream that “every girl who wants to play guitar is welcomed and inspired to do so.. This was my chance—my duty—to change the culture and provide her and all girls with a better, more inviting experience.”
Ciravolo’s focus on female empowerment and females in music has been immortalized by her induction into the Museum of Making Music, the world’s premier museum showcasing the history of the music products industry. In 2009, Tish participated in NAMM’s Oral History project and received Guitar Goddess Magazine’s “Trailblazer Award.” In 2010, Daisy Rock was inducted into The Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ, and Tish received the Searchlight Scholar award from the Women’s Executive Leadership Summit at the University of Wisconsin School of Business. At the 2012 NAMM Show, Tish Ciravolo was honored with the “She Rocks Award.” Ciravolo has spoken at Ted Talks, the Musicians Institute and NAMM and has been featured in national and international media outlets such as USA Today, People, Time, Newsweek, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, FOX, VH1, the Premier Radio Network, BBC Radio, and the Associated Press.
The debut album ‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’ features a beautiful collection of music luminaries, including Wayne Hussey (The Mission), Simon Gallup (The Cure), Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Al Jourgensen (Ministry), Pete Parada (The Offspring), dUg Pinnick(Kings X), ICE-T (Body Count), Michael Aston (Gene Loves Jezebel), Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Dirk Doucette (Gene Loves Jezebel), Ashton Nyte (The Awakening), Pando (A Flock of Seagulls), Evi Vine (Evi Vine), Betsy Martin (Caterwaul / Purr Machine), Marc Danzeisen (The Riverdogs), Kevin Kipnis (Purr Machine / Kommunity FK), Rudy Matchinga (Red Scare) and Johnny Indovina (Human Drama).
‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’ will release on vinyl on November 30, but is already available on CD and digitally, including on iTunes, Spotify and Bandcamp. CDs and vinyl can be ordered from the Beauty in Chaos website.

Crooked Ghost ‘Skeleton House’ to get CD & Vinyl release. Watch ‘Sleepwalker’
Dreamy post-punk rockers Crooked Ghost have announced that their new album ‘Skeleton House’ will be released on CD on November 23, followed by a limited edition 12″ vinyl release in February 2019. Ahead of this, the Asheville, NC outfit presents their ‘Sleepwalker’ single, accompanied by a video, directed by Rome Widenhouse.
“Skeleton House’ is the band’s sophomore long-play – a dark and hazy dreamscape of lush and angular melody, with a stark lyrical rawness touching upon such subjects as addiction, trauma, loss, superstition, and everything that gets left behind after a catastrophic event. The album consists of eight tracks, ranging from dreamy and playful to anguished and harrowing. Billowing vocal patterns weave intricate stories between shimmering guitar crescendos, cascading synths and mathematical percussion.
This album follows up their debut LP ‘Strange Burial Rituals’, released in March 2017. This new offering has two distinct halves: the first is lighter, the second darker. The whole thing plays out like a story, or rather, two opposite stories that are intertwined.
“The song ‘Sleepwalker’ was one of the first written for the new album, and everything about it just worked. The song itself is in reference to addiction and a dissolution of ones sense of self; self-medicating and numbness. I wanted to bring light to something dark, yet still tell an honest story. Something about this song has always stood out for us, says frontman Ray Clark.
“The music video was shot by Rome Widenhouse over a period of several weeks, and includes shots of that eclipse everyone was so excited about. The video is a bit surreal and has a sort of Twin Peaks meets the X-Files vibe. It was a lot of fun to shoot, even the traipsing barefoot through the woods in nothing but a bedsheet and getting poison ivy part. At one point our director took a tumble down a cliffside and we thought he was done for!”
Formed in Seattle in 2013 as an acoustic side project by Ray Clark, Crooked Ghost was initially a channel for leftover songs that didn’t seem to fit in any of the other bands Clark was involved in, but quickly became the focal point of Ray’s creative energy. Ray soon fled the musically-saturated Seattle scene to find himself in the intensely creative heart of Asheville, North Carolina.
With a guitar case full of lyrics of songs never intended to be heard by anyone, somehow, something had begun to spark again. Intimidated by the idea of a solo project, Ray joined with Chris Saldin, who would play bass, and bought an electric guitar, set on bringing Crooked Ghost to life. Together with drummer Jon Wyatt, the songs came to life. A few months later, they entered the studio to record their debut album.
They were eventually joined by Charles Reed on guitar and Alex Cannon on keyboards before recording the heavily emotive and dreamily lush ‘Skeleton House’. With the power-pop punch of Catch Fire, the dark-disco punk breakdown of Roadkill, to the angular yet dreamy swoon of Sleepwalker, Skeleton House will impress and even haunt you.
“These songs were inspired by the loss of someone I loved to a fire. The idea that something like a fire could destroy so much, but still leave something behind was so inticing to me. I wanted these songs to represent resilience and strength, and to be able to process loss in a healthy way. I wanted to find a way to bring light to the darker things I was experiencing, and to arrange the pieces into something beautiful,” says Ray Clark.
“We recorded this album up in Black Mountain, NC in the dead of winter. The snowy and icy landscape definitely added to the album’s atmosphere. This is also our first release on vinyl, making it very special for all of us. As kaleidoscopic as it sounds, I feel we very much achieved the piece of art we were wanting to make.”

Liverpool’s The Room in the Wood to release sci-fi inspired ‘Mars’ EP
Lead track ‘Mars (Won’t Save Us)’ is a riff-based psyche rocker focused on the foolishness of Elon Musk’s ideas about colonising the Red Planet. We are reminded “Mars won’t save us. Mars has no air.” It is accompanied by a psychedelic video composition by ex-Send No Flowers and Moongoose collaborator Mark Jordan.
“We went in the studio to record some tracks and came up with ‘Mars (Won’t Save Us)’, which was a riffy departure from most of our debut album. Lyrically it’s a flat statement that Mars is not a viable option for emigration,” says Dave Jackson.
Band members Paul Cavanagh and Dave Jackson are once again working together after a huge gap since their post-punk band The Room split back in 1985. After reuniting, this past year has seen them write over 30 new songs.
Featuring contributions by drummer Colin George Lamont (Mark Lanegan, Dave Gahan), this album was recorded by Steve Powell (Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band) at his Liverpool-based Ark Studio and mastered by Pete Maher (Barry Adamson, The Alarm).
“‘Every Lie’ is a bluesy, countrified stomper bemoaning the rise of the populist right, and inspired by the late great Johnny Cash – this is a response to Trump and Brexit. ‘Get Clear’ a Spanish guitar-tinged ballad extolling the virtues of escaping cult thinking. It follow ups our song ‘Magical Thinking’, but is sung to a friend escaping some dogmatic cult,” says Dave Jackson.
“Time Machine’ is another vaguely sci-fi rumination, wistfully reflecting on the passage of time filtered through the vision of HG Wells. We thought that ‘Mars’ and ‘Time Machine’ gave the EP a science fiction edge and Mark Jordan’s video reflects that,” says Paul Cavanaugh.
Dave Jackson has been writing and recording since his teens – with The Room, 051, Benny Profane, Dust, Dead Cowboys, as Dave Jackson & The Cathedral Mountaineers, and also with former Shack guitarist John Head. He has recorded and released 10 albums with these various incarnations, notched up 7 John Peel sessions with The Room and Benny Profane, and has also appeared on the Whistle Test, Janice Long and Saturday Live.
Jackson has also toured the UK, Europe and the USA extensively with The Fall, The Violent Femmes, Aztec Camera, The Lemonheads and The Wedding Present. He currently teaches creative writing at Liverpool John Moores University and has developed his novel ‘Violet City’ as a low-budget fantasy feature film.
Apart from The Room, Paul Cavanagh has performed as a solo instrumentalist as Cabin in the Woods and as one of Mike Badger’s Shady Trio. He worked with The Room drummer Alan Wills at Deltasonic Records with The Coral and The Zutons. Paul has also recorded 4 John Peel sessions and released albums with Top, It’s Immaterial, Moongoose, as well as critically acclaimed singles with Gloss. He also played guitar for Chinese Religion, The Balcony and Ludus.
A Turntable Friend Records is an independent record label. currently in its second life. Based in Germany with distribution through SRD (Southern Record Distributors) and Rough Trade, their mission is to keep vinyl alive while casting light on sonic gems of yesteryear and today. 1990s peers of Sarah Records and Slumberland Records, ATF Records has always had a roster as diverse as Secret Shine, The Wolfhounds, Boyracer (with Even As We Speak), The Claim, The Ropers, the Hellfire Sermons, Lorelei, Bradford, Easy and Dose.

The legendary Front Line Assembly returns with the crushing new single Eye On You!
Taken from the album “Wake Up The Coma”, coming early 2019.
Featuring Robert Görl of D.A.F. and smashing remixes from Terence Fixmer and Orphx.
The following is taken from the band’s Official website
“Front Line Assembly (FLA) celebrated its third decade in the music industry last year in 2016. Since then the company has gone through many changes. That includes different sounds and members. For example, band members like Michael Balch and Rhys Fulber have played in FLA and several other bands during their musical history. This shows the big influence the band has had on the genre.
Then there’s the history of the band itself. There includes the band’s formation, as well as the eras of Balch, Fulber, Peterson, and the recent years. We provide lots of information about all of these eras so you can learn about the different periods of the band’s history. Our goal is to provide fresh and detailed information so you can better appreciate the band in terms of its past/present members, changes in musical sounds, and so on.
One of the interesting things about FLA is the band has been around for several decades. This makes it more likely you can find some information that you weren’t aware of. That’s one of the main goals of our site, which is keep providing our visitors with new info they can’t find on other sites. This explains why we’re always adding to the site and making posts.
