Pylon Reenactment Society – Messenger / Cliff Notes (Chunklet Industries 30 May 2019)

Pylon Reenactment Society announces tour dates and European debut at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Festival
The legendary Athens, GA band is supporting their ‘Messenger / Cliff Notes’ release

Pylon Reenactment Society have announced a string of summer live dates, including their European debut at the Primavera Sound Festivalin Barcelona, Spain on Thursday, May 30, 2019. They will be touring in support of their latest ‘Messenger / Cliff Notes’ 7″ single, for which the band has issued a special ‘tour edition’ on gold-colored vinyl, to be made available at shows.

Pylon Reenactment Society is fronted by former Pylon front woman Vanessa Briscoe Hay, whose inimitable vocal textures and phrasing define Pylon’s sound for most listeners. A sonic powerhouse, Hay also numbers among Paste Magazine’s list of “The 25 Greatest Front Women of All Time”.

Pylon Reenactment Society formed from the ashes of Pylon, one of the most influential bands at the outset of what became known as the ‘Athens, GA music scene’, along with other frontrunners The B-52’sand R.E.M. Over 30 years ago, these three bands were heavily featured in the original feature documentary ‘Athens, GA: Inside/Out’, propelling them into the international spotlight.

Despite their massive success in North America, Pylon performed only in the UK (back in 1980), but never performed on mainland Europe. Fans in Europe will be treated to this rare opportunity to see Hay and her new band perform a mix of Pylon songs and new original material.

Pylon Reenactment Society (a.k.a. PRS) was founded in 2014, five years after Pylon’s celebrated history came to a sudden end in 2009 with the death of guitarist Randy Bewley. Since then, PRS has turned into a tight touring unit having performed at festivals and venues on both coasts, the Midwest and the Southeast.

In addition to Hay, PRS is rounded out by Jason NeSmith (Casper & The Cookies) on guitar, Kay Stanton (Casper & The Cookies) on bass guitar and backing vocals, Damon Denton (Big Atomic) on keyboards, and Joe Rowe (The Glands) on drums.

PRS released their ‘Part Time Punks Session’ EP in 2017 via Chunklet Industries, a hip Atlanta-based tastemaker record label founded by Henry Owings. At the end of 2018, they released a 7” vinyl single of two original songs – ‘Messenger’ and ‘Cliff Notes’, with distribution more widely following in 2019. It is now available both via Bandcamp and at independent music stores.

PRS is putting the finishing touches on a full-length recording of all new and original material.  Hay is also close to finalizing a deal for the reissuing of the Pylon catalog on vinyl. The band continues to receive rave reviews for their releases and their live shows. Fortunate concert-goers can catch them live as follows:

May 26 @ 7:00 pm  – Athens, GA at Hendershot’s (with The Vassar Blondes)
May 30 @ 11:30 pm – Barcelona, Spain at Primavera Sound Festival, Your Heineken Stage
June 22 @ 8:15 pm – Augusta, GA at Athfest Sampler, Miller Theater (with The Producers and The Pauses)
June 23 @ 4:30 pm – Athens, GA at Athfest Music Festival, Washington Street Stage
August 17 @ 9:00 pm – Decatur, GA at The Vista Room

Kristin Hersh U.S. tour dates for ‘Possible Dust Clouds’ LP plus Throwing Muses festival date announced

Kristin Hersh U.S. tour dates for ‘Possible Dust Clouds’ LP plus Throwing Muses festival date

Indie music heroine and celebrated 4AD Records veteran Kristin Hersh announces June tour dates in support of her new highly acclaimed album ‘Possible Dust Clouds’, out now digitally, on vinyl and CD via Fire Records. Playing as a hard-hitting electric trio, along with Fred Abong (Throwing Muses) and Rob Ahlers (50FOOTWAVE), these shows are loud, tight and intense, featuring material off this album and from across Hersh’s 30-year career.

Kristin Hersh is most recognized as frontperson for the influential art-punk band Throwing Muses and power trio 50FOOTWAVE. Throwing Muses gained traction in the early ‘80s, playing with bands like The Pixies and Dinosaur Jr. Kristin’s solo career spun off in 1994 with the widely acclaimed ‘Hips and Makers’, featuring ‘Your Ghost’, a duet with R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe. Kristin has since released a steady stream of distinct solo albums with 2010’s ‘Crooked’ the first release in the inventive book/CD format she is now known for.

In addition to a series of frighteningly intense mini-albums via 50FOOTWAVE, Kristin’s writing career has also flourished with the highly acclaimed ‘Rat Girl’ (titled ‘Paradoxical Undressing’ in the UK) and the award winning ‘Don’t Suck, Don’t Die’, a personal account of her long friendship with the late Vic Chesnutt.

Hersh is also pleased to announce that Throwing Muses will be performing at the Pasadena Daydream Festival on August 31, along with The Cure, Pixies, Deftones, Mogwai, The Joy Formidable, Twilight Sad, Chelsea Wolfe, Kaelan Mikla and Emma Ruth Rundle. Tickets will go on sale on Friday May 17 at 12pm noon Pacific time.

Kristin Hersh’s astounding career has seen her heralded queen of the alternative release. Her tenth studio album ‘Possible Dust Clouds’ is a highly personalized sociopathic gem delivered as a futuristic rewriting of how music works. It’s a melodious breeze with a tail wind of venomous din.

A turbulent cracker with riot grrl swagger, this album is Hersh’s first new material since 2016, when she released her critically-acclaimed double album-book combo ‘Wyatt at the Coyote Palace’In contrast to that LP, which saw Hersh record over several years, playing all the instruments on these songs over many years, this album involves numerous friends.

Enveloping the juxtaposition of the concept ‘dark sunshine’, she created this brooding solo, expanding her off-kilter sonic vision. Produced, mixed and mastered by Steve Rizzo, this album brings contributions by Fred Abong on bass, Chris Brady (Pond) on vocals and bass, and drums by Throwing Muses’ David Narcizo, Rob Ahlers and Kristin’s son, Wyatt True. The result is a squally and heady mix of discordant beauty.

“When I heard the record back after leaving the atmosphere of the studio, it was like stepping back from a painting. It just sounded like this chaotic party. You want the chaos, you want the violence, the sweetness lends itself to a fun explosion. And that’s what “Possible Dust Clouds” sounds like. Yeah, it’s an act of God,” says Kristin Hersh.

Feedback and phasing gyrate from simply strummed normality. Imagine Dinosaur Jr and My Bloody Valentine cranking up a Dylan couplet. ‘Possible Dust Clouds’ is a glorious return to form for one of alternative rock’s true innovators.

Touring allows listeners the chance to experience what the BBC calls Hersh’s “dark and dizzy world”. For this tour,
Fred Abong also opens the show with an acoustic solo set in support of his own recently-released ‘Pulsing’ EP. His music is alternately described as “ragged Replacements” and “Elliott Smith with balls”.

When asked about what music project she enjoys the most, Hersh says “My new favorite incarnation is the super-group I’m playing in now, with Fred Abong from the Muses and Rob Ahlers from 50FOOTWAVE. We’re touring ‘Possible Dust Clouds’ because they both played on it, but I had no idea it would be this incredible. We’re all terrified that this tour will end someday. Which it will.”

‘Possible Dust Clouds’ is available now online everywhere and on vinyl via Fire Records, who also re-released her seminal album ‘Crooked’on snazzy orange vinyl on Record Store Day 2019. Hersh kicks off her new tour on June 19 in Northampton, MA at The Iron Horse. Ticket info and sales links for all shows can be found at

Beauty in Chaos – Drifting Away ft. Robin Zander (Synthetic Capricorn Mix) 33.3 Music Collective 21 June 2019

Beauty in Chaos presents ‘Drifting Away’ ft. Robin Zander and Michael Anthony (Synthetic Capricorn Mix)
Remix by Paul Wiley (Marilyn Manson) and Steven Alexander Ryan (The Black Queen)

Ahead of the release of their new album ‘Beauty Re-Envisioned’, LA-based supergroup Beauty in Chaos is previewing the track ‘Drifting Away’ ft. Robin Zander (Synthetic Capricorn Mix). Remixed by Paul Wiley (Marilyn Manson) and Steven Alexander Ryan (The Black Queen).

This remix – one of the album’s bonus tracks – has been disassembled and eloquently reconstructed for the new album. In addition to lead vocals by Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), this track also features Michael Anthony (Van Halen)Ashton Nyte (The Awakening)and Marc Danzeisen (Riverdogs) on backing vocals.

Beauty in Chaos is the brainchild of guitarist Michael Ciravolo. Originally from New Orleans and now based in Los Angeles, Ciravolo has played guitar in Human Drama for the past 30 years, most recently on ‘Broken Songs for Broken People’ (2017). Perhaps best known as President of Schecter Guitar Research, he has also played live and recorded with Michael Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel since 1998.

“When Michael ask me to help create a song for an album he was working on I had no second thoughts. This man is a real class act. He and his wife Tish built these extraordinary guitar companies that have created a niche in a very competitive field to say the least. He built my signature Dream Police guitar that was featured on the tonight show. When I told him I was giving instruments to my son and daughter’s school for lack of a music program he and Tish (Daisy Rock Guitars) presented them with 20 instruments,” says Robin Zander.
“We’ve had a great relationship and I was proud to be part of something I new would be great… especially when I heard that Michael Anthony (bass player and my wife’s favorite singer in Van Halen) would also be performing on the record.”

Michael Anthony notes, “It was an honor and a pleasure to sing some background vocals to Robin Zander’s lead on the song Drifting Away. I’ve always been a fan of Cheap Trick and Robin’s vocals.”

Earlier the band presented ‘Un-Natural Disaster’ ft. dUg Pinnick, Zakk Wylde and Ice-T (Collide Mix), which premiered in Rolling Stone. This was the first single from their soon-to-be-released album, which includes an extremely wide variety of remixes and alternate versions of many of the tracks that appear on Beauty in Chaos’ debut album ‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’. Both albums are produced by Ministry‘s Grammy-nominated producer Michael Rozon at Ciravolo’s own SAINTinLA Studio.

The debut album ‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’ features numerous music luminaries, including Wayne Hussey (The Mission), Simon Gallup (The Cure), Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Pete Parada (The Offspring), dUg Pinnick (Kings X), ICE-T (Body Count), Michael Aston (Gene Loves Jezebel), Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Dirk Doucette (Gene Loves Jezebel), Ashton Nyte (The Awakening), Pando (A Flock of Seagulls), Evi VineBetsy Martin  (Caterwaul/Purr Machine), Marc Danzeisen (The Riverdogs), Kevin Kipnis (Purr Machine/ Kommunity FK), Rudy Matchinga (Red Scare), Johnny Indovina (Human Drama), and Tish Ciravolo (StunGun/ Daisy Rock Guitars).

About ‘Drifting Away’, Beauty In Chaos main-man Michael Ciravolo says, “This song has what to me is the truly special element of BIC, putting artists together that on the surface might seem a tad strange. I think Paul and Steven did a great job on this remix, keeping Robin’s catchy vocal melodies and and playing up Michael Anthony and Aston’s parts.  Musically they injected a bit of Manson-inspired electronics along with a cool ‘Sgt Pepper-esque’ twist, taking it to a different place than the original version that appears on the debut ‘Finding Beauty in Chaos’ album.”

On June 21, ‘Beauty Re-Envisioned’ will be released via LA-based label 33.3 Music Collective on deluxe CD and limited-edition heavy-weight colored vinyl. It will also be available digitally across online stores, including iTunes, and streaming platforms like SpotifyCDs and vinyl can be ordered from the Beauty in Chaos website at

LYRICS (Zander, Ciravolo, Matchinga, Christian)
High above the clouds
Looking down upon the sea
Ride a wave of love you gave So tenderly
But now you’re so far away
I hardly know what’s true
The distance in your eyes it fades
My point of view
It’s too late to get it back
The time it slips away
I’m drifting out to sea my love
No light to guide my way
Drifting away
Half way around the world
Time goes on and on and on
That ship on the horizon
Its here and then it’s gone
Distance is an open wound
No healing hands can close
Every time I call your name
You’re hanging up the telephone
Too late to get it back
It’s time to make things right
I’m drifting out to see my love
Youʼre almost out of site…

Your 33 Black Angels – Eternities 1 (7 May 2019)

Your 33 Black Angels release ‘Eternities I’ album, present ‘Dead New Romantics’ video

Your 33 Black Angels (a.k.a. Y33BA) present their new album ‘Eternities I’, their seventh long-play to date. They have also revealed the new video for ‘Dead New Romantics’, shot and edited by WinnieCheung and Helena Sasseron surrounding the band’s live performance at Maverick Studios with John Epperly behind the board.

Recorded over three years and more than 60 studio days with endless mixes in the making, ‘Eternities I’ is 13 tracks that are built to stand as the culmination of Y33BA’s labors. Earlier, the band introduced listeners to the album’s first single ‘Hott Funn’ with a space-age alien force of a video.

Y33BA are Dan Rosato, Josh Westfal, Daniel Bombach and D.A. Stern. Together they are a long-running New York City-based noisepop freakshow. This genre-defying project has its own stamp of dark pop, electro-paisley new wave space rock, with a dose of crunk bass and rhythm. They produce elegant vibrant melodies with strange, novel sounds. This is the New Age underground for the End Times.

“This song started with a repeating guitar pattern. Soon after, a set of nonsense lyrics spray painted onto the side of a diner appeared in a dream. Throw in some off-kilter rhythms and a swarm of bees, then set it all off with an explosion of improvised noise and you’ve got some good gravy,” says Dan Rosato.

“What it’s really about is anyone’s guess and we prefer it that way. Have a listen – pay close attention to the words or luxuriate in a web of guitars and robo-groove – if it’s not clear it’s ok, there are more important things to worry about in this life”.

How does a group that has danced around sensibilities and sounds refresh the template?  More cutting-edge instruments and more risky, avant garde pop songs than ever.  Imagine Madchester, and imagine dreampop meets Aphex Twin. Imagine the bastard child of Arthur Russell, Rain Parade and Rza and add original 21st century sound design and guitar webs.

This is a radical, angry, watermark record. Designed to embrace and rattle against the times. Combining haute popcraft with touches of the undercurrents of our lives–acid house, Paisley Underground, synth wave, field recordings, minimal electronica and epic RAWK.

The Y33BA wordsmiths have always been equal part poetry fans as lyricists, so the Poesia Concreta of Augusto de Campos or Guillaume Apollonaire may have as much an influence as wonderful lyricists like Neil Hannon, Bjork or Serge Gainsbourg. Breaking rhythms and broken meter match the polarized sounds from start to finish.

Formed in 2003, Y33BA debuted with the album ‘Lonely Street’ in 2007, which was a vinyl-only limited edition. Once the initial pressings sold out, Y33BA released the album on CD and digitally. They followed up with ‘Tales of my Pop-Rock Love Life’ (2008), ‘Pagan Princess’ (2009), ‘Songs from the Near Bleak Future’ (Optical Sounds, 2010), ‘Moon and Morning Star’ ( Optical Sounds, 2012) and ‘Glamour’ (2015).

In that time, they have played over 500 shows across Europe and North America, sharing the stage with some rather fine acts during recent tours.  The Monochrome Set selected Y33BA as direct support act for its first New York City show in 30 years. La Femme, The Veldt and Dyr Faser have toured or shared many nights with the group.  The band has also played with King Tuff, Blitzen Trapper, Suuns, Six Organs of Admittance, Blonde Elvis, B-17 and We Melt Chocolate.

As of May 7, Y33BA ‘Eternities I’ is available across digital stores and streaming platforms, as well as BandcampTheir album release show will take place on May 10 at Alphaville in Brooklyn with support from My Favourite Things, Activity and Haunted Horses NYC. Their new tour, which also brings them to Canada, kicks off the night before in Saratoga Springs.

Paul Den Heyer – Everything So Far (A Turntable Friend Records 17 May 2019)

Liverpool’s Paul Den Heyer presents debut LP via a prism of ‘Technicolor Summer Sunshine’

Liverpool-based indie pop artist Paul Den Heyer has announced his forthcoming debut album ‘Everything So Far’, slated for release on May 17 via A Turntable Friend Records. Ahead of that, he presents the lead track ‘Technicolor Summer Sunshine’.

Den Heyer is perhaps best known as frontman of 90s Liverpool band Fishmonkeyman, who produced the indie-hit ‘If I’ve Told You Once’, signed on with Warners and Virgin Music, and kept up active appearances on TV, radio and on the road.

More recently known as producer for Sunstack Jones and member of The Red Sided Garter Snakes with former members of The Chameleons, Bauer, Puressence and Inspiral Carpets, ‘Everything So Far’ is his first solo release, made with the help of good friends and recorded during a summertime spent on the Wirral peninsula.

Paul Den Heyer creates moody acoustic landscapes and melodic miniatures with fantastic harmonies and a rich set of instrumentation with hints of Mojave 3, Neil Halstead of Slowdive and Mazzy Star. Even The Byrds shine through.

He describes his musical style as ‘Britanicana’. Indeed his music blends British folk songwriting with 60s/70s American psych-pop, drawing on Influences from Syd Barrett, Nick Drake, John Martyn and Richard Thompson with a tip of the hat to Neil Young and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Den Heyer notes that his shoe-gazing 90s background also peeps through in his simple production.

“Everything So Far is a personal collection of songs triggered by a sequence of recent family and friend bereavements and a health scare of my own 5 years ago. Such things (as the members of Spinal Tap in their movie state) give a person ‘too much fucking perspective’ and often put them into an introspective state of mind. This was certainly the case with me and was enough to make me write my first new songs in almost 20 years,” says Paul Den Heyer.

“The songs came thick and fast and effortlessly, unusual for me, and were recorded quickly in between sessions for a Sunstack Jones album I was working on in the summer. Hence, the band feature on the LP heavily as they were good enough and only too happy to help out. Wouldn’t have happened without them!”

As of May 17, ‘Everything So Far’ will be released on digital platforms, including iTunes, Bandcamp and Spotify with worldwide distribution through London’s SRD (Southern Record Distributors).

It will be available as a limited 9-track CD in gatefold, and also on limited run vinyl in your choice of black or milky-white (exclusive to BandcampLimited Run and Rough Trade orders). Both options come with a download code, while vinyl orders also come with a lyrics sheet.

Produced with Christopher Jones, Richy Jones,
Lorcan Moriarty, Dave Jackson, Julian Connor,
Jason Riley, Nicholas Schuster, Bill Teags,
Jessica Den Heyer, Terry Lloyd & Alan Currie
at The Panic Room, Wirral.
Mastered by Danny Woodward at Whitewood Studios, Liverpool.

The Meeting Places – You and I (Saint Marie Records 24th May – CD, digital 26th July 2019 vinyl)

The Meeting Places was founded in September, 2001 in Los Angeles, CA by Scott McDonald, Chase Harris, Dean Yoshihara, and Arthur Chan.

Having a shared interest in bands like Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine and Ride, the four developed a cohesiveness and expansive signature sound that led to the band’s debut album, Find Yourself Along the Way (Words On Music, 2003), recorded at The Ship studios with The Breeders and Elliott Smith producer Aaron Espinoza.

The album appeared on the Top Albums of 2003 lists of several publications around the world, with critics noting the record’s crafty juxtaposition of noise-pop, atmospheric rock and tunefulness.

Their sophomore album Numbered Days, produced by Grandaddy’s Jim Fairchild, was released worldwide by Words On Music in October 2006 and earned excellent reviews on publications like Spin, Pop Matters, All Music among others.

In 2017 the band began to play select shows across Los Angeles while working on brand new material which comprise the quartet’s first new release in over a decade, due out on 24th May 2019 through Saint Marie Records.

With You and I The Meeting Places pick up where they left off, combining catchy, melodic indie-pop with layered shoegazey guitars and upbeat rhythm patterns.

The Meeting Places music has been featured in TV shows and streaming services, including Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and Season 2 of Judd Apatow’s Netflix show LOVE.

They have performed live extensively including San Francisco’s Noise-Pop Festival (2003), SXSW (2003 and 2005), and shows in Taipei, Taiwan (2007).
